Star shines in ABCs

Daily Star
The Daily Star, which has boosted its circulation by 10%, has emerged as the biggest victor in the newspaper price wars.
The Daily Mirror, which slashed its cover price from 32p to 20p, lost readers while its arch rival, the Sun, claimed victory in the circulation battle.
The net circulation of the Daily Star, which still costs just 10p in London, has soared to 672,949 over the past year, although the paper still lags far behind the Sun and the Mirror.
The Mirror's June net circulation - including discounted and international sales - dropped 3.56% year on year to 2,116,717, according to the latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
In contrast, the Sun increased its net circulation by more than 2% over the same period to 3,524,673.
One reason for the Mirror recording lower sales than in June 2001 is that the paper performed well during the last year's general election, which took place in June.
However, the month-on-month figures do not offer much encouragement.
The Mirror's net circulation has fallen by 0.57% since May, while the Sun's sales have increased by 1.9%.
The Star's circulation fell by just over 1% in the last month.
